“If you want to have a good time, I don’t care where you live, just load in your kids and take some congenial friends and start out. You would be surprised what there is to see in this great country within 200 miles of where any of us live. I don’t care what state or town.” – Will Rogers

San Antonio

San Antonio is a well-known tourist destination all year round. You will find historical sites such as the Alamo, the River Walk, as well as Hemisfar Park built in 1968 for the World Fair along with tons more. The city has a long history of cultural influences that you can still see today if you can look beyond your margarita glass.

Houston

Houston is such a large and diverse city, with many cultural and culinary wonders to enjoy. For our city guide we are focusing primarily on the closer-in areas (known as “inside the loop” to locals) as well as some of the far-flung must-sees. If we missed a spot feel free to comment and we can add it in. Every part of Houston has its unique charm and personality. If you find yourself here check out what we recommend below and you will not be disappointed.

Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg, Texas is a historical German town Located in the Texas Hill Country. It is a special place to visit with lots of culture, history and charm. There are festivals all year long so check out the Fredericksburg Festival Schedule . There are many Bed and Breakfast places for your stay. Here are some of my favorite spots when I am in town visiting.

South Padre Island

South Padre Island, a beautiful beach in South Texas. Yep you might have heard it because it’s the most popular beach resort in Texas. I prefer to visit this beauty in every other month but March. I love the off season when I can catch the best deals, and avoid the crowds. It’s as South as you can get in Texas so it stays pretty warm for most of the year. I’d like to share with you a few of my favorite places you absolutely cannot go wrong with.

Marfa

Marfa. Every once in a while you stumble into a place that is so… so right.  The people, the food, the feel, the very air you breathe.  It all works so seamlessly and you can’t help but wonder just what took you so long to get there.

Marfa is by no means a new find, in fact it’s been an artistic religious pilgrimage of sorts since the 1970’s and a surprising number of the under 2500 citizens are from farflung cities and states. The recurring story goes something like this: ”We trekked to Marfa for an afternoon of sight seeing, called our roommates two weeks later to ask them to sell our stuff and haven’t left in five years”.

If you’re in Austin or Dallas and want to share your favorites places to eat, sleep, and shop let us know! Or if you have another take on these cities we’d love to hear about it.
