This holiday break, I decided to reorganize the house a bit and do some clearing out and cleaning up. This gave me an opportunity to take inventory of what I have, what I need and what I don’t use anymore.
The one thing that struck me is why, for so long, I’ve kept certain things stored away and not used them. Nice platters, decorative serving pieces, et cetera. Then I realized there is a bit of my grandmother in me. You know, the generation that had plastic on the living room sofa, and held firm on the idea that you store the nicer things you have and only bring them out on special occasions.
So in one of those random Tuesday epiphanies, I decided I didn’t want to continue that tradition any more. Beyond cliche, life is an occasion to be celebrated every day.
The everyday is what makes up the most cherished memories, not the holidays or the moments that we construct around ourselves. So I’ve decided to use my silver, pull out the trays, make life grand everyday because it is worth it.
Next time you are staring at your crystal, silver or anything that you “only” pull out on special occasions think about celebrating Tuesday – because you can.
