Do It Yourself Spa Treatments

Inspired Living

From head to toe, treat yourself to spa quality treatments for a fraction of the cost of a visit to your local day spa.  Follow these recipes to create hair-repair treatments, moisturizing baths, exfoliating facials and soothing foot soaks with ingredients you probably already have around the house.

Nourishing Hair Mask

1 egg
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Mix all ingredients together.

After cleansing hair, apply mixture to scalp first, making way down to the end of your hair. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Coffee Body Scrub

2 cups coarsely ground coffee
1/2 cup sugar OR seat salt
3 tablespoons of massage oil

Mix all ingredients together.

When in the shower, moisten skin first then apply mixture with sweeping, circular motions. Rinse thoroughly, pat dry, then apply your favorite lotion to lock in the moisture.

Moisturizing Milk Bath

1 cup powdered milk

Pour powdered milk into your warm bath for a moisturizing soak.

Aspirin Exfoliating Mask
1 bottle of non-coated aspirin
1 tablespoon of generic moisturizer

Mash up 10 aspirin in a bowl. Mix in moisturizer until the consistency is a fine paste — use a little more or less of the moisturizer to accomplish this as it should not be runny.

Apply mixture to face and neck and allow it to dry completely. Using sweeping, circular motions, rinse off slowly with warm water.

Mayonnaise and Olive Oil Moisturizing Mask

1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
1 teaspoon of warmed olive oil

Apply mayonnaise (cold or room temperature) to face and neck. Leave on for 1 – 2 minutes (3 – 5 if your skin is extra dry). Rinse off with cool water. Next, apply slightly warmed olive oil to entire face, allowing it to sit for about 5 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Herbal Facial Steam

12 basil leaves
12 cilantro leaves

Fill a large bowl with very hot water. Add in ingredients.

Hold your face 8 – 12 inches above the bowl and place a towel over your head to prevent the steam from escaping. Steam for about 10 minutes.

Mint Foot Soak

4 tablespoons of crushed fresh mint
2 tablespoons of Epsom salt

Add ingredients to a small tub or large bowl of warm water. Soak feet for 5 minutes. Pat dry. Apply your favorite lotion to seal in moisture.

  1. Nice list. I am digging the Herbal Facial Steam! I can smell the basil already.

  2. Nice! Another use for the basil in our garden. Basil is really the only thing that does well, so we have a ton of it!
