Roasted Figs with Goat Cheese and Honey

Description

This gourmet appetizer is a snap to make.

Servings

12

Ingredients

12 fresh figs
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup goat cheese, softened OR mascarpone cheese

Preparation

Cut each fig into quarters, stopping 1/2 inch from bottom so as to leave the base intact. Gently open figs. Spoon teaspoon cheese into the center of each fig.

Roast in an oiled pan at 425° for 12 minutes, until softened.

Drizzle with honey.

Notes

Special note on preparation: I sometimes like a more firm cheese in my fig and therefore roast the figs WITHOUT the cheese for 10 minutes, adding the cheese in for just the last minute or two.

Goat or Mascarpone?
Looking for something more savory? Use Goat cheese in this recipe and consider adding a dash or two of black pepper to the cheese (mixing the two together before putting in to your figs).

Is something more sweet your cup of tea? Use Mascarpone cheese (the same cheese you'll find in tiramisu) with this recipe. It's equally fabulous when paired with figs and will give you more of a dessert flavor.
