Description
This was a fun casual dinner we hosted with our friends and all of our children. It was super easy because I just ordered the food and focused on making the table festive.
Invitations / Decorations
I didn't use invites since it was a casual dinner with just one family. BUT I think it would be fun to create custom invites by using jewel tone stock card paper (already cut) and stamps with different patterns using a gold ink pad. Use gems and stickers to adorn the invite. All of this can be found at your craft or hobby store.
For The Table:
I had a colorful Indian tablecloth that we covered in flowers and 1 low arrangement in the center of the table with tea candles. I also used garland that I made with ribbon and flowers to lace around the chairs to make the room look more festive.
Party Favors / Activities
Henna Tattoos (Temporary Tattoos) that you can purchase online at Amazon.com or at your local bookstore
Food / Beverages
We ordered the food from a local restaurant that serves amazing Indian Cuisine. Here is what we had on our menu:
- Navaratan-E-Bahar (9 seasonal vegetables in a creamy tomato sauce)
- Gobi Alloo (Cauliflower and Potatoes)
- Murgh Madras (Classic Chicken Curry)
- Murgh Tikka Masala (Chicken Tandoori in a tomato & cream sauce)
- Boti Kebab Masala (Marinated Lamb in a brown sauce)
- Gosht Shahi Korma (Lamb in a saffron cashew nut sauce)
- Naan (Traditional leavened white bread)
I did make 2 dishes that are traditional in Britain when serving Indian Food that cut down on the spice:
- Bananas and Raisins mixed together with Juice from 1 Lemon
- Sliced Cucumber & Cherry Tomatoes mixed with salt, olive oil, and juice from 2 Lemons.
Wine: I find that sparkling goes well with spicy food. I really love the Graham Beck Brut Rose. For me it is a perfect drink to serve with this cuisine. After the sparkling we moved on to a Chardonnay.
Graham Beck Brut Rose is a Chardonnay and Pinto Noir based sparkling from South Africa. It really shines when paired with spicy food. It is a must try!
